Faucet and fixture repair: identify the leak before ordering parts
Plan a faucet, shower or fixture repair with the model, leak location, shutoff access and parts questions that matter.
John Ciampoli Plumbing · Updated
Where does the water appear?
Water dripping from a spout after use, leaking around a handle and collecting underneath a sink are different observations. Note whether the leak happens only while the fixture runs or continues when it is off. A worn seal may be involved, but a nearby hose or connection can also need attention; do not assume every wet cabinet needs a new faucet.
Identify the fixture and access
Provide the brand and model if visible, a clear photograph and any earlier repair information. Keep belongings away from the work area. Locate the fixture shutoff without forcing it; tell the dispatcher if it leaks or will not move. For a replacement, save the new product's installation instructions and confirm that required adapters are included.
Repair or replace?
Discuss part compatibility, condition of the fixture body and the work needed to reconnect supplies and drains. Decorative finishes and concealed shower components can affect access and matching parts. Ask what is included in the proposed work and who handles damaged finishes. A manufacturer's parts warranty and a plumbing service scope are separate questions.
